Mandarmani Trip on Bike 13-03-2011

It’s been a long time since I’m planning for a trip on my bike, but couldn’t make it so far. At last me and my elder brother like friend planned for a weekend trip to Mandarmani. It’s a virgin beach near to Digha which is a famous seashore tourist spot in West Bengal. And it’s around 200km away from my home town Kolkata.

On 13th March Sunday early morning around 6:00am we started and reached Kolaghat which is around 75km away from Kolkata through NH6. The NH6 is a fourlane freeway and the riding experience was awesome. Also the weather was spectacular, little fogy and cool. Sorry for lack of shots on the way, as my cam Nikon D5000 was heavy and it was quire difficult to take quick shots.

After taking a little rest and breakfast at the well known Sher-e-Panjab Dhaba we started again and change the highway. The next phase of the road was Haldia Highway AKA NH41 which was under construction and it was very uncomfortable for a ride on bike. Still after a lot of struggle we reached Nandakumar and leave the NH41 and headed towards Contai. The next part of road was kinda rural road which was horrible in few places but also quite awesome at few places. Smooth carved roads which made the ride perfect. Somehow we cover it and at Chawalkhola we headed towards Mandarmani and reached at our destination at around 1:00pm. As we had a Pre-booking Resort, so no other issue at all.

The evening was nothing more special, we were very tired but at the evening we were eager to drive on the beach. The Mandarmani beach is famous for driving, it’s a 15km wide beach and the sand is very intact which is perfect for riding. Throughout the evening we drove on the beach, even when the dark fall, upto around 8:00pm. Then we came back to our Resort and spend up to the night near the beach with our favorite Smirnoff Vodka and peaceful cool wind.

Next day Monday morning we came out at the beach with our bikes and took awesome rides throughout the beach and had a lot of fun and enjoyment. The driving experience was quite different, it was like driving on the runway. And then we came back at noon, took our lunch and pack-up to leave.

We started to come back home after noon and very soon the dark fall. The night ride was more horrible and tough, we needed to take many breaks throughout the rural roads and NH41 which was more than 100km in total but after reaching Kolaghat NH6, the drive became awesome at night which I didn't expected. It was like playing road rash while we were cutting through the speeding trucks at 80kmph average speed. And in the end we reach home safely at night around 11:30pm.

Ultimately the experience was quite different. I drove long with cars and many time visited Digha by driving car all alone, but this was ultimate. The adventure we got in bike is incomparable with cars. The only problem was our backpack, as it was heavy it became pain for us very soon. Otherwise HH Hunk is so comfortable for touring that I felt same stress while I made the same journey by driving a car. Mandarmani is definitely a nice place but its quite expensive, Hotel and Resorts are cost around 1.5k to up to 5k and also the food is expensive.

I'm eager to take one more very soon.
